Commonly asked questions

What is IFV?

IFV stands for Illini Film and Video and this a club or RSO at UIUC.

What does the club do?

Produce videos of ANY type. Now what that means is we may cover multiple aspectes of film production. Some members may have a strong interest in screenwriting. Some may have an interest in camera work. Some an interest in postproduction, sound, lighting, stage, makeup......We hope that everyone will bring there interests to the club and with that make for good fun production. This club is about trial and error. If you're interested in camera work but don't know anything about a camera. This is a place where you can ask others about it and get some experience. You can either strengthen a skill or learn a new one.

How can I join IFV + I'm not an undergrad at UIUC?

You can come in it at any meeting. Most members are UIUC undergrad students but we have no issues about who can join unless you are impolite/disturbance.

Where and When do you meet?

English Building Room 104 at 6:30 PM Wednesday

I have a class during the meeting how can I get involved?

IFV tries to hold the meeting at a time good for most students. We can not find a time that will be good for everyone. Its just not possible. If you can't attend a meeting, check the weekly e-mail(and of course this website) about what interests you and try to get in contact with that person/IFV

How to be a good member?

Don't just show up to meeting. Showing up to meetings and not joining/starting any project is a waste of your time. You may have an idea but so do many other people. Its fine to want to have your own project but not every project can get the full amount of people it needs to be completed. While working on your own, help someone else with their project. You get to know the other members of the club and increase the chances of forming a crew to work on your project. Also do not let your area of focus isolate you. You can enjoying screenwriting but you can help out others(and yourself) by occasionally being a cameraman or actor.

Also if you say your going to help on a project then actually be of some help. Don't sign up for something you can't commit to. Being interested but not committed helps no one. Some people have one day shoots, others have 1 month long shoots. Understand what you are signing up for and give that person the respect to be able to work under the schedule or formally leave the project.

What equipment does IFV have to borrow

Check equipment page

How do I borrow equipment

We are not an equipment rental service. Just showing up to a meeting once in a while does not mean you get an okay to get equipment. The equipment is reserved for members who intend to give back to the club.

Ie don't be the guy who comes in because he heard of IFV and just asks for equipment.

Rules for equipment

Contact the equipment manager about the equipment you need and when

*Some equipment has specific requirements before they can be loaned out

Equipment is on loan for three days at a time

Work out with the equipment manager on where to pick up the equipment

The equipment is now in your care and should be returned in as you received it

You are liable for damage not caused by normal wear and tear

For example, the battery dies because it was bad is normal

The camera breaking because you pushed it to the ground for a fast moving shot is not

You will also face legal action for any equipment we believe you stole

Do not give the equipment to anyone except the equipment manager or the other officers(if worked out ahead of time). This is so we know who is the last person responsible.

Will you film this for me

Contact IFV and we will see if this is possible. Most services we will charge a fee if it comes to shooting an event and of course any post production work.

I can't register on the forum

Contact the IFV or the webmaster about this issue

Weekly Email and how to get your news in it

The weekly e-mail contains all the news and projects annouced at the previous club meeting. You can e-mail IFV to get onto the mailing list. E-mail IFV to get your news on the mailing list. This is the best time to provide all the details and contact info in typed form. Your news will only go out in the next e-mail unless you send it again for the following week.

Get off mailing list

There is a link in the IFV e-mail for this. Follow the instructions and you should be able to remove yourself. If you can't take a deep breath......

Do not yell at us that you got an e-mail if your an old member. We don't purge the accounts at the end of the year or anything. Shoot us an E-mail with the e-mail address that is actually getting the email. People have a habit of forwarding their e-mails and then think they are getting the mail sent to this account when it's the other.

Getting film content onto the website

Contact IFV, If your submission is approved thenwhat we do is upload the film to our Youtube page and that link will go up on the films page. Provide all the informations you want accompanied with the film (Cast, crew, plot, backstory, film techniques........)

Anything else?

Send IFV an E-mail. Links at the top of the page

Also you can call or text us at (802) 438-8482
